Is absence seizures a syndrome?

Genetic in ~ 50%, : but not a syndrome. Variation in several different genes have been found that confer susceptibility to the development of childhood absence epilepsy through studies of families with multiple affected family members. However, in medical genetics, a syndrome is a collection of signs & symptoms that are characteristic of a single condition for which the underlying genetic cause has been found.
