Chill, but not much: I advise patients to check their bp first thing in the AM. Sitting down, arm relaxed. I like the Omron automatic cuff (around your upper arm; do not use a wrist device). Keep a diary of your bp and bring to your MD for review if the pressure averages are elevated (greater than 130-140/80-90). Remember, bp is dynamic and being too calm and relaxed is not your "normal" state.

Lying: and at least 5 minutes and not in the doctor's office ! the wrist measures I haven't been very happy with. Talking or moving a bp monitor can lead to false results.
