Herpes: There are two types of Herpes. Herpes type I is the common cold sore or fever blister you can get recurrently when your immune system is suppressed. Herpes type II ID the one that is most commonly associated with STD's. This is the type that is most commonly found to occur in the genital area. Does this help?

Kissing or other: There are two Herpes viruses: Herpes Simplex 1 (cold sores) and Herpes Simplex 2 (genital herpes) You at some time in the past came into contact with the open sore of someone with herpes (this could have been years ago, as the virus can lay dormant for years). If you have an outbreak, see your doctor within 48 hours, and they may be able to prescribe antivirals. Hope this helps!

Many types of herpes: depends on what herpes you are talking about..herpes zoster (which is chicken pox in kids or shingles in adults) is not an STD and is spread thru direct contact with an infected person. cold sores or herpes simplex type 1 causes painful breakouts around mouth/lips and can be transmitted by kissing/sharing a toothbrush or drinking from a cup from an infected individual.
