Yes: Very hard question. If the tube will be in his mouth for awhile will cause injury to the vocal cords. A tracheotomy tube won't do that. Having a tube in your mouth is also uncomfortable. Good luck

Yes: You mean tracheostomy instead of endotracheal tube.Is your 75yr.old loved one(you are 17)now on ventillator? Tracheostomy is to wean him off ventillator or to make removal of respiratory secretions easier or minimize risk of aspiration pneumonia if there is poor or absent cough reflex. The ICU doctors are very qualified to make that decision or they would not be allowed to treat ICU patients.
