Liver ultrasound: Fibroscan is a special type of liver ultrasound that can measure the stiffness of the liver, and is used to decide how much advanced hepatitis or cirrhosis may have damaged the liver in chronic disease. It is only helpful with chronic or advanced stages of liver disease, and does not reliably predict mild or moderate liver diseases, which can be assessed better by liver biopsy
