May be normal: The vision may blur briefly with rapid eye movement normally. Sometimes the eyes have to re-fixate and re-focus when looking from one point to another. Some people have a type of glasses prescription that they have to focus in (farsightedness or hyperopia), and there may be a lag time in focusing with this condition. An eye exam and clear this up and rule out any possible problems.

A 25-year-old member asked:

When I close my eyes and squeeze them, then when I open them again, I get clear vision. Why is this?

Possible dry eyes: The most common reason why people can have vision that blurs in and out is dry eye. While the eye is open, the tears evaporate, drying out the cornea surface and blurring the vision. Squeezing the eyes closeed causes a slight tearing response which lubricates the cornea, smoothing its surface and improving the vision. An easier way to achieve this is to use artificial tears 3-4 times per day.

A 29-year-old male asked:

Upon waking or opening my eyes, i see a small transparent red spot in the center of my vision lasting 1-2 seconds. Should i be concerned?

Red spot noticeable: It is not common to see a red spot when you awaken. And if you see any red or pink spots, you should go to your eye doctor and have it examined. Through a dilated fundoscopic examination, they can pinpoint what is causing it, and what needs to be done, or if it just needs to be monitored. Yes, be concerned, and get a second opinion if you need to.

Refraction: This suggests uncorrected lens needs and perhaps more than an average amount of astigmatism. You should get your eyes refracted by your ophthalmologist who can investigate if there is anything else that is a problem.
