Ultrasound?: Ultrasound is very rarely used for knees. Usually weight - bearing ( standing) X-rays and MRI ( if needed) are useful w/ history and physical examination for diagnosis of knee OA.Best radio graphic study for loss of articular cartilage is MRI .Possibly your physician only has ultrasound available @ office(ob- gyn?).some physicians/ radiologists use US in office for ' cheap' dx.of rot.cuff tears.GL
