Many possibilities: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, ANA at titer of 1:160 in 29 year old warrants additional investigation. ANA is not diagnostic of any particular disease but is a marker of auto-immunity. Abnormal test result: ANA- antinuclear antibody positive This testis done to check for autoimmune disorders like lupus and many other connective tissue disorders. Positive test by itself does not mean that you have lupus or connective tissue disorder. Many patients may have just the abnormal test. They may or may not develop clinical signs later in their life. Just be watchful through a physician.

Nothing: By itself, the ANA means nothing. The doctor is likely screening for possible sensorineuronal hearing loss. However, the ANA has little value in the diahnosis of this disorder.
