A member asked:

Can i have celiac if a skin test was negative for wheat allergy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Celiac is due to an immune reaction to certain components of wheat protein, gluten/gliadin, but is not due to allergic antibody (ige) to wheat, so skin testing is negative in celiac. Certain blood tests showing immune reactions to certain intestinal enzymes, e.g. Tissue transglutaminase (ttg), are positive in celiac disease. Consult a gastroenterologist.
