Too late: At age 17 boys have either reached their adult height or have less than an inch left. Regardless of what you were told about being 6 feet tall it is time to accept that you are not going to get any taller. And 5 feet 8 inches is very close to average for adult men

Uncertain: If your growth plates are closed, you cannot grow any taller. You should get a bone age assessment done. Your predicted height is based on the height of your parents. You don't say what the height of your parents is.

There's SOME hope...: Some men have a late growth spurt and can add several inches to their height between the age of 17 and 20. Aiming for 6 feet might be a little unrealistic, but with a healthy diet (lean protein, good fats like olive oil, fish, and nuts, and fresh fruits and veggies), and getting plenty of sleep, you might gain a bit more height.
