Pulmonary: Spiriva is a medication with an anticholinergic compound and a compound that dilates smooth muscle (inhibits M3 receptor). People are put on a regular long acting agent because they have frequent attacks without it. How were you doing without the medication?

Hard to Say: Only knowing your FEV1/FVC ratio does not give enough information to answer your question. Spiriva is typically used for COPD or emphysema or added to other medications for asthma. I would not ignore what your doctor told you and if you are unsure about using a medication you should always discuss that with your doctor.

Questionable: If your FVC and and FEV-1/FVC are both normal and you don't have asthma symptoms, I don't understand why you would need to take Spiriva which is not a controller drug. You need to ask your doctor what the rationale is since I don't see any indication for it but then I don't have your whole history either.
