Re-evaluation by MD: Any time an older person has a significant weight loss, a comprehensive evaluation is needed. GERD is not likely to be the cause. Make an appointment for her to be evaluated by her physician. Tests that have been normal may become abnormal. This may be a very serious problem and should be regarded that way.
