Stopping: These meds cold could give you a rough ride. I would talk to your doctor or if you are not comfortable with him find another doctor to help you wean off the meds. The higher doses and the longer you were on the meds. All lead to a more severe withdraw. Nausea, vomiting , abd pain, anxiety etc just to name a few symptoms. But explain what you want to do. And wean off slowly.

Might be uncomfortab: Stopping narcotics cold turkey especially if someone has been on them for an extended period can illicit symptoms of withdrawal. Those symptoms can mimic flu like symptoms, sweats, headache, abdominal cramping, diarrhea. Withdrawl from narcotics is not life threatening but can be disabling and uncomfortable. Withdrawl from other types of medications such as benzodiazepines can be dangerous.
