Yes: Hi Annie. Yes, crying hard can cause temporary irritation, but it isn't the only thing that can cause a raspy cry. I'm glad you're keeping an eye on it. If it isn't getting better in a few days to a week, I'd have her seen again, because RARELY there can be other issues, like a growth in the airway. Usually things work out just fine, so I would worry unless it isn't getting better. Good luck.

Yes, hoarseness: Crying or shouting a lot can make the vocal cords swollen, and this will cause a hoarse voice or raspy cough,but it is usually not painful. Many viral infections will also cause hoarseness, and usually resolve in a week or so. For persistent hoarseness, check with her doctor.

M.D follow up: If the raspy cry persists, I would suggest discussing the possibility of reflux and conditions that may affect the larynx and vocal cords. Most likely though your baby strained her vocal cords by crying and this will resolve with rest and some time.
