Unfortunately, yes: Chronic Active EBV or CAEBV is a diagnosis with poor prognosis, esp if acquired beyond middle childhood. Even though you are in USA, for me to assume that the diagnosis was based on reliable tests and in consultation with an infectious disease expert, fFor a serious condition like this, a second op minion is often warranted. Pl discuss potential benefit from bone marrow transplant with your doctor

Recent treatments include immunomodulators such as interferon gamma, and pre-clinical studies of bortezomib, and valproic acid are promising.
