Child posessions: Depends on the type possessions and child's age. Many children carry transitional objects (things that might make them feel secure when in "unfamiliar" situations). This might be a teddy bear or other things that remind them of being secure (e.g., being with a parent). Being fixated (intense focus on an object or part of and object) might reflect a developmental disorder.

Child wants it.: Just the same way as adults hold onto unnecessary objects and possessions.

Property: Children just like adults become attached to things. If this possession was acquired during a time of stress such as abuse, this may have special meaning. Just like Linus blanket. Instead of getting rid of something that belongs to the child, need to ask how important it is for the child. They also want some control over their environment. just as other do. it is a symbol of control.
