No best time: I don't think it makes any difference when they are taken--nor is there a limit.

Doesn't matter: There is no best time to time to take it. Just make sure you take it daily.

Bed time is good: There haven't been any good studies showing the "best time" to take acidophilus, but it seems that the best time to take probiotics is when they are most likely to "survive" in the gut. Since they are "living" bacteria, it is best not to take it with hot water/coffee/hot tea etc. It "may" have a better chance of colonizing in your gut if you take it on an empty stomach also.
