PCR viral load: A HIV viral load PCR test would be the most helpful. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) method uses an enzyme to multiply the HIV in the blood sample. Then a chemical reaction marks the virus. The markers are measured & used to calculate the amount of virus.

None: There are no HIV tests that can completly exclude HIV infeciton follwoing exposure within 45 days. Seroconversion to HIV can ocurr as late as six months although the majority of patients will seroconvert within three months. For helathcare workers following exposure we are tested at baseline, 6 weeks, three months and six months.
