Please see a doctor!: There are many things that can affect the memory. Stress, Medical conditions, medications etc and Depression is known to affect mental status and other neurological abilities. It sounds like you need to see a doctor immediately if you are having thoughts of harming yourself. Please go to the nearest ER if possible for an urgent evaluation.

Dear Depressed: I think that it may seem that losing memory of painful times might help - avoidance and forgetting is not the answer. If you are depressed enough that you are considering self-harm then you need help. Start with a medical evaluation to rule out medical causes of your symptoms. Medications are sometimes indicated.
