Lateral plantar: The lateral plantar nerve is a branch of the tibial nerve. It can be compressed at several points along its course from the tarsal tunnel down to the base of the metatarsal phalangeal joint and beyond. Sometimes you can localize the problem by pressing on the bottom of the foot along the nerves course. If the problem cannot be localized ask the neurologist to do a nerve conduction study.
