Small Abscesses: The staph aureus culture result suggests the the abscess drained, which is part of the treatment. Small abscesses may respond to antibiotics, but drainage by needle aspiration or scalpel incision may be required. Small peritonsillar abscesses can be treated with clindamycin. If it so large that the uvula is pushed to the side, needle drainage is attempted as well. Drainage alone can be the cure.
