Depends: Lung cancer may occur in smokers or non-smokers. The symptoms are dependent on the location and extent of the cancer. It may be found when asymptomatic (no symptoms) or when very advanced an many symptoms, such as pain, hemoptysis (coughing up blood), seizure (brain mets), shortness of breath, etc.

Cough/wheez/SOB/fati: There are many different lung diseases such as asthma, interstitial lung disease, emphysema (alpha-1 antitripsyn deficiency), copd(second hand smoke can cause), and infections etc...Often causing symptoms of cough/wheez/sob/fatigue etc...Most lung cancers result from smoking, but most smokers don't get lung ca, instead copd. If you have chronic or new symptoms, consult your doc..God luck.
