"BOOP": I'm very sorry to hear about your father. Boop is not really a diagnosis, but a typical pathologic finding in response to any number of different forms of lung injury. Most common cause of the pattern we call BOOP is actually infection. This includes commin things like influenza, and pneumococcal pneumonia. But any sort of lung injury to the can cause this pattern on biopsy.
