Yes: A retrograde urethrogram is an alternative. This done by placing a catheter in the urethra by the tip of the penis. A balloon is inflated to block the urethra. Then a contrast agent is injected. This is done using x-ray images which are obtained at the time of the injection. It is a very accurate way to look for penile strictures.

If the stream is: weak he should do uroflo study and post voiding study to check if any sign of obstruction. after that if obstruction is suspected then cysto is appropriate
