Other options: First you need to look into why you bleed so much and try to address that problem. It is possible that birth control pills might be an option, the mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD has been approved for treatment of heavy periods, and there are several methods of endometrial ablation ( destruction of the lining of the uterus available now. If none of these work for you, then hysterectomy is definitely an option.

No: in your case because of added risk factors, i would suggest an endometrial ablation or a D&C or Lupron (leuprolide) perhaps before major surgery is entertained
