Benadryl (diphenhydramine) If not gone: This could be an allergy to cherry and if it worsens go immediately to ER or call 911. If it resolved see an allergist to help you sort it out because it could also be a cross reactivity between birch pollen and cherry called oral allergy syndrome. Either way it needs further testing.

Oral fruit-pollen: This is likely due to sensitization to a plant pollen and is called oral allergy syndrome or fruit-pollen allergy. It is not usually associated with throat closure. Avoidance is the best but he must eat it, taking an antihistamine ahead of time may be helpful. No fruit is worth the discomfort of itching.
