See a doctor: The first step is to try to establish the cause of the pain. Your doctor will take a history, perform an examination and order appropriate tests to help make a diagnosis. Once the cause is found, you can get appropriate treatment.

Colonoscopy?: Have you had a screening colonoscopy? Was it normal and do you have a family history of colon cancer? Have you noted any blood in your stool? Have your stools changed in size or shape? Like a longer, thinner shape, or consistently loose. How regular are you and are your stools hard and difficult to pass? These are the questions you will need to ask a doctor in person to get to the bottom of this.

Left side pain: Left sided abdominal pain may indicate a gas pocket, which is common in the splenic flexure of the colon. Such a pain may indicate constipation. And such pain may indicate diverticulitis. Be aware if you have fever. If so, see your doctor right away. Be aware if you may be constipated. Relief with a gentle laxative, such as milk of magnesia or citrate of magnesia or Miralax (polyethylene glycol) will help.
