Should be just fine: The big risk with ingestion of rubber foam would be inhalation and/or airway obstruction. Since these would have been ruled out by your visit to the physician he will likely pass them in his stool without incident.

Rest easy: Little kids often sample the world around them using their sense of taste as one one factor. The foam is non toxic and if it did not end up blocking the airway on its way in, there is no risk.These kids eat wood chips, dog food, bugs and sometimes grosser things. You can't stop the behavior until they have better communication skills and a few nasty experiences to understand it needs to stop
