Chorda Tympani nerve: A branch of the facial nerve called the chorda tympani nerve supplies taste to the anterior tongue (on the operated side). It also provides some innervation to salivary gland responsible for the secretion of saliva. This nerve runs through the middle ear space behind the ear drum. It can be stretched or cut during surgery. The symptoms usually improve however with time.
