Yes and no: Are referring to a "retainer" (which is really a removable appliance) that is actually used to move teeth: slightly loose? yes, that's how teeth are moved. To the point of falling out? no, unless there is some other serious problem as severe periodontal disease. Real retainers just keep teeth fixed in place after Orthodontic treatment! can cause slight soreness if not worn all the time or adj need

Retainers loosening: Yes anything in your mouth can loosen your teeth. Yes and in extreme measure even loosen teeth to fall out. Have your DDS or orthodontist check you retainer. They can easily adjust it so it will fit passively in your mouth.

Retainer: Retainers should retain, not loosen, your teeth. If retainer is being worn exactly as prescribed and you have any mobility, the retainer or you bite may need a slight adjustment. Make an appointment with your Orthodontic Specialist for review. Also make an appointment with your General Dentist to check the bone/gums supporting your teeth.
