Can't diagnose: this over the internet. However, clearly this is dangerous if you are driving or engaging in another potentially dangerous activity. It is very important that this be evaluated by a neurologist.

Try not to drive: Unfortunately, I can't provide a likely cause - but I do want to urge you to avoid driving or handling dangerous equipment until it's resolved. Your safety and others too, is at risk. That's very serious. Deadly serious! (You'd really have a dead stare) With no idea of known conditions, medications and a fuller description of your functioning during the 'dead stare' - I'm stuck, but have an exam.

Seizure: I would be concerned that you are having seizures that cause your headaches. Going into a "dead stare" while driving is dangerous to you and those around you. Please do not drive until you have seen a neurologist to be evaluated and these episodes have resolved.
