Possible: Some babies can be born with lactose intolerance (LI) or develop it later due to some damage to intestine, as in case of an acute diarrheal illness. Many cases of LI, children can continue to grow despite the enzymatic deficiency when they are able to absorb essential rnutrients from their intestines. in most cases, symptoms of LI get better with age, as they learn what foods to avoid.

Maybe: It is hard to advise since more information about the child's history is needed. A pH of 5.5 or less indicates an acidic stool. A low pH can indicate carbohydrate or fat malabsorption. Typically infants have a milk protein intolerance, not a lactose ( sugar) intolerance. If removing milk from his diet doesn't work, may need other studies done.
