Likely: Brain tumors have characteristic appearances on MRI. A doctor like myself (brain surgeon) can usually suggest several possibilities as to what this lesion is. Pls question your doctor so that there is a clear communication between you both. You are asking a serious question and I want you to get a satisfactory answer from your treating doctor. If not try a virtual consult here, bring your scan.

Most likely: Nowadays, MRIs are quite good at imaging significant tumors in the brain. If your doctor knows how to read an MRI (and he read yours,) he would, more likely than not, have picked up a brain tumor if there was one.
