What can a doctor tell by listening to your heart?

Lots of things: When we listen to your heart we can tell if it's beating fast or slow; if there are unusual noises called murmurs or if there are unexpected gaps. Each of these will point to different types of heart issues

A stethoscope: With a stethoscope a doctor can determine the rate and rhythm of your heart and can listen murmurs and other sounds which can raise suspicion of heart valve disease, heart failure, and other heart conditions. It is a useful tool but rarely provides definite answers. If abnormalities are noted then followup tests are often needed but if normal it is reassuring.
