A member asked:

I am taking prilosec for gastritis . the gi dr started me on dexilant (dexlansoprazole). can i switch. which one is more effective?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Both meds are good: both Prilosec and Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) are effective medications but one may work better for you. Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) is long acting prevacid which is thought to last longer in your system than Prilosec. If the GI doctor switched you because you were still having symptoms on Prilosec then Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) maybe a better choice
