Yes: Thyroid problems can cause weight gain OR loss. Only way to know is blood testing. You should have your adrenals tested as well, and pituitary problems can certainly cause thyroid to malfunction. Since you have had testing already, makes sense to ask your physician what else might be responsible for your symptoms.

Thyroid dysfunction: Hyperthyroidism has a wide variety of symptoms from losing weight, to skin changes, diarrhea, heat intolerance, heart problem which these should be supported by level of TSH and FT4 in blood, make sure you don't have malabsorption syndrome, that could be a possibility for you not gaining weight if you eat 2000 KCAL a day.
