Osgood-Schatter: This is a disorder common in rapidly growing teens, that although painful during this period, has no long term effects on growth. Management is supportive and preventative, such as using shin guards for sports activities, NSAID medications such as Motrin/Advil, and applying ice packs when actively painful.

Osgood-Schlatters: Good stretching before and after exercise is important. Apply ice after sports if the knee is painful or there is swelling under the knee area. Ibuprofen can help. If it is severe, sometimes the athlete needs to rest it for a while to let it calm down. The good news is that they usually grow out of it- it's an overuse injury related to rapid growth.
