A member asked:

Is a half-beat in your heart dangerous. ps. how do thank a doctor for his/ her answer?

Usually not: If you mean by "half-beat" that your heart thumps once or feels like it "skipped a beat," this is a palpitation and in the absence of other symptoms is typically benign. If you notice that you are having this repeatedly over the course of the week, see you doctor who may have you wear a heart monitor. If you have multiple beats or persistent thumping, with chest pain or dyspnea, go to the ER.

Palpitations: Occasional extra beats are a benign condition. If this occurs frequently and if you have chest pain or shortness of breath this requires evaluation in an emergency room
