Depends on type: Non-displaced fractures, will heal quickly and show few, if any signs in a newborn unless significant traction is placed on the upper arm. Since most newborns are not subject to extreme traction or tension after delivery, a non-displaced fracture can go entirely unnoticed, unless at some point the baby has an xray of the arm. Displaced fractures are diagnosed quickly, usually right after birth
