Yes: You may have periodic swelling now that you are walking. Using compression socks that go to the knee may help reduce edema. If it doesn't resolve then see your doctor.

Postop Ankle Edema: I tell patients that it is not unusual to expect some swelling from an ankle fracture with open reduction and internal fixation for about 6 months. This should be improving with time and may wax and wane with activity.

Yes.: Ankle fracture repair takes usually 6 weeks before you can start walking in fracture boot which you gradually move back to shoe with ankle brace with therapy. Swelling can take up to 6-12 months to go down but you should see a steady decrease in swelling over time if the bone properly healed. No Flannel: The swelling that one experiences after this type of ankle injury is measured by several associated tissue considerations . Damage to blood, and lymph vessels, nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments and bone all contribute to the length of time for the swelling to end. The fracture site and subsequent repair are only a part of the necessities required to eliminate the swelling.
