Low potassium?: Leg cramps can be due to dehydration, or also to low potassium. If the cramps are at night, drinking tonic water before bed may be helpful. Also you might try eating foods that are rich in potassium like bananas, white beans, potatoes, avocado. Make sure to drink enough water daily that your urine is clear to slightly yellow.

Other possible cause: Other common causes include strains/sprains, compartment syndrome, thyroid problems or medications. A lumbar disc herniation can irritate nerves of the legs. Muscle overuse, strains, and sprains can cause muscle pain in people who repetitively use their leg muscles. Hormone imbalance and medications, such as statins used to lower cholesterol are also common causes. Time to discuss these with MD!
