Missed periods: You are only 16 and you may have periods of irregularity with regards to menses. Is nutrition OK? (any anorexia or exercise bulimia?). PCP may need to do a hormonal panel and a pelvic exam to see what is going on. Poly cystic ovarian Syndrome should be ruled out. Do you have facial hair or worsening acne and easy weight gain? Also, are you on any hormonal therapy such as birth control bills?

Missed periods: You can miss periods from stress, weight changes or heavy exercise, but they should return when those conditions resolve. If you have missed your menstrual period for >=6 months, it is called amenorrhea, and a doctor should test for a hormonal cause. You might need a Provera (medroxyprogesterone) withdrawal test. If no bleeding after stopping Provera (medroxyprogesterone), you might need to start an OCP that contains estrogen.
