It depends.: Breakthrough bleeding and spotting are common in the first few cycles after starting The Pill and isn't alarming. But, if you have been on The Pill a while and, out of the blue, started having breakthrough bleeding and spotting, then you need to make an appointment with your prescribing doctor to reevaluate the situation. However, in the meanwhile, continue taking it as prescribed.
