Even as early as "day eight" on a new low dose oral bcp, taking the active pill within the hour of the prior day's active pill is protective against breakthrough bleeding. Bcp's will retard the formation of ovarian cysts, but if the bleeding persists, stop the current pack, and wait five days, then restart a new pack, paying attention to punctual use of same.
