See gynecologist: When you are menstruating, it is normal to sometimes have a "gush" of blood from the vagina when you cough (increase intra-abdominal pressure) or stand. This blood has pooled in the vagina and is simply coming out. However, if your period is persisting for longer than normal I would advise you to make an appointment with your gynecologist for an evaluation.
