Is a multifocal lens recommended for every patient?

No: Multifocal lens are intended to reduce the need for glasses, but they work well in good candidates, i.e. Rest of the eye is healthy, expectation that sometimes glasses will still be needed, ok with a small risk of glare/haloes or other visual issues in various lighting conditions, and the need for more refractive surgery to improve outcomes. Thus like lasik not everyone may be an ideal candidate.

Multifocal everyone?: No. Absolutely not. It depends. Also, there are multifocal contact lenses and multifocal implants (after cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange). Talk to your ophthalmologist.

No: This lens is typically for people who are older than 40 years and need both distance and near vision correction, whether referring to a multifocal contact lens or surgical implant lens. A normal lens implant in >40yo can correct distance or near but not both so monofocal will require some type of glasses or contact lens correction after the procedure.
