3 months: A chronic cough is any cough that has lasted for at least 3 months. I recommend that you see your doctor if you have had a cough for several weeks that isn't improving.

Time: Chronic cough is by definition a cough that is present for two month occurring on a daily basis or for most days. The most common causes of cough include post-nasal drip, asthma and acid reflux disease. Additionally, cough that is associated with a recent viral illness can persist for up to 6 weeks.
