Needs evaluation : Menopause alone does not cause painful sex. Vaginal bleeding after menopause is abnormal and needs evaluation. If the bleeding happens after pain with intercourse, you may possibly have a tear/laceration. Please see a gynecologist for evaluation of post menopausal bleeding and possible laceration

Vaginal atrophy: Hi. Yes, after menopause, the vaginal mucosal lining atrophies and sex can be painful. Topical vaginal estrogen cream can be very helpful, and so little is absorbed that you don't need to take progesterone if you still have a uterus. Talk with your gyn...she/he can give you the details. Good luck, and no pain!
