Thioglycolate: The active ingredient that causes hair removal in creams contains a thioglycolate compound. There are different types of these in use. Other ingredients can be combined to make them more effective and less irritating and add fragrance.

Thyoglycolates: Most hair removal creams contain thioglycolate sulfates and salts. They work by breaking down the protein in the hair where it exits from the follicle, causing it to fall off. But don't count on the labels to find the best choice. They may be confusing, incomplete or too small to read. Stick with products that are described as "mild" "gentle" or "hypoallergenic" and follow the instructions!
