Assess for Infection: 17 yr old; redness, swelling, yellow crust at earring hole. This can be due to infection or a reaction to metal in earrings. There is no mention of pain which is an indicator of infection. If pain is present & other symptoms are worsening, infection is probable & you should see your doctor. Otherwise do not wear earrings x 3-4 days, cleanse area with soap/water, change to hypoallergenic earrings.

Infection: Leave the earring out and clean with peroxide, and see doctor asap. If worse go to ER.
